My 1980 Johnson 235HP outboard has developed a leak at the joint in the fuel manifold. I know this is p/n 0390466. When shopping for a replacement, I'm finding a lot of parts stores list this particular part as 'Obsolete'...which implies that there is an improved/replacement available. I'm not having much luck finding a cross reference for it. I can certainly build my own from fittings, but if a new improved part is available, I'd take that option, as an original replacement seems likely to leak at the same joint in the future.

Is anyone aware of a new/improved replacement? TIA!

Try your local OMC dealer, they should have all that information on their computer. For something like that it'd probably be about the same money to buy the new one from them anyway.

That part was used on every crossflow V6 from 1980 till they quit making them in 1991. A really common part, but unfortunately-has been discontinued by Bombardier. They are not a high failure item, so purchase of another will probably last the rest of the useful life of your 235. There are many new ones left in dealer stock scattered across the country. Any Bombardier dealer can call up their dealer lists that still have new stock on hand-esp if there is a dealer local to your area. For instance, this dealer shows 2 new on hand: VANS SPORT CENTER INC, 1855 ALPINE AVE NW, GRAND RAPIDS, MI phone (616) 364-0666. If you don't want to pay for a new one, you will surely find many used one a marine salvage yards: you can contact Boat Recyclers of Wilmington-a good salvage yard. You will find them on the web and ebay.

Yeah, you're right in that this part lasted 30 years...so maybe just a new replacement is the way to go.

Good advice...if it was a problem part they'd have redesigned it over the years wouldn't they...ok, I'll get a new replacement. Thanks for the phone number as well.

If it was me I'd build my own with the proper ID fittings and ethanol resistance fuel line. That way I'd know what I had.

Re: 1980 Johnson 235HP - Fuel Manifold Obsolete Part?

I have the same fuel manifold as the one described here (390446) with a slightly different problem. The Manifold itself has no cracks or damages but the two pieces have simply come unglued from each other. I was considering using PVC cement to put it back together but after some pointed Google searches,it appears that gasoline does not play well with PVC. This leads me to believe that the manifold is made out of a different plastic such as HDPE. Does anyone know what kind of plastic this manifold is made from? Once I know the material, I should be able to determine a suitable glue or epoxy to use.

I was able to find and purchase a new OEM old stock part for under $20. I'd never ever try to cement or glue the two pieces together. My broke in exactly the same spot.

Its a common point of failure on that part.

Failure of your repaired part means gas all over a hot hot powerhead...not worth the risk!
