Hi, I'm trying to diagnose a problem with my 85 HP Johnson Motor. Last August the Boat was swamped. the inboard fuel tank went under water, of course the fuel was shot. The motor itself never went under water. I've since opened the four carbs and drained the bad fuel. I've tried to remove as much of the fuel as possible from the tank. I could not get it all, but I'm sure I removed it all but around 95% of the 14 gallon tank. I've added seafoam to the fuel per the local boat shop recommendation, and put approximately 1/2 tank of good fuel in it. Since then I've had intermittent problems with the motor, It will run and run well for approximately 15 minutes, but then will die at open throttle. To start the motor after it dies I generally have to choke it, and sometimes even then it won't start. I've only used about 1/2 tank of gas since it was swamped and have very little confidence in the motor. does this issue sound like it still may be some bad gas, or does it sound like there could be another issue? Also, I have an issue with the power Tilt up. It tilts dows fine, but not up, I had a rebuilt tilt motor installed last year due to the same problem. This is a 3 wire motor and I've heard they're hard to come by. does anyone make a rebuild kit for these motors?, or can a person buy a new motor for this? Or, how does one convert to the 2 wire unit? Assistance is greatly appreciated. Thanks.....
