I need to rebuild my Mariner 60hp 2 cylinder, but I cannot find any parts. My Mariner is the Japanese built model and it looks like the Yamaha commercial 55hp 2 cylinder. I am wondering if they are identical, but just have the Yamaha stickers. Sierra makes less expensive replacement parts the Yamaha. Sierra only makes a few parts for the Mariner 60. Does anyone know if parts for the Yamaha 55 can be used for the Mariner 60? Specifically, the Yamaha power head gasket set, flywheel and ignition coils. Any insight would be helpful.

Re: 1980 Mariner 60hp 2 cylinder compatibility with Yamaha Commercial 55hp 2 cylinder

I've found that the 2 cylinder Mariner 60hp also shares the same block, crankshaft, and most of the power head gaskets with the 55hp and the 48hp. Looks like the carbs and reeds are different and possibly some lower unit parts, but the parts for the 55hp and 48hp Japanese Mariner models are just as hard to come by on parts as the Mariner 60hp. I still cannot tell if the Yamaha 55hp is uses the same parts. Looking at the parts diagram for Mariner 60hp and the Yamaha 55hp, things look identical, but the part numbers are different due to the different names. This is what I am looking at (sorry, I had to refer to these sites for diagrams):

Mariner 60 HP (2 CYL.) CRANKCASE AND CYLINDER HEAD Parts

I was told that Yamaha may have used left over Mariner parts on their Yamaha line. Can anyone confirm this?
