1980 merc 80 hp outboard top end power issues

hi guys i have a 1980 mercury 80 hp outboard with the thinderbolt ignition and the motor idles fine and runs at half throttle fine but when i run it at 3/4 to full throttle i loose all power and the engine will shut down i dont know what the problem is but after it shuts down it doesnt like to start almost like its flooded if you let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes it will fire back up and run fine at lower rpm im clueless here outboards are not my strong suit any idea or help would be greatly apreciated

stator had the same problem on my 83 70hp a couple years ago im not saying for sure but if the starting has a mind of its own check the stator for sure, took me months to figure it out i paid 212 dollars for my stator and the new ones r re designed where the wires come out i bet thats ur problem, does it just not start then all of sudden 10 minutes later shes fires let me know
