Hello All!
I am new to the iboats forum.
I have a 1980 (i think) Merc 115 "tower of power" 6 cylinder that runs decent when cold right from idle to the top of the rev range. When it warms up it still runs great when you get the revs up but has a huge problem idling around and when under light load.
I haven't done too much digging around yet. To me it seems like it would be a "low speed coil" problem as it runs solid at high rpm when both cold/warm. The boat has the 2 coils (3 cylinders each) as opposed to the single distributor setup. Is there any way I can test the "low speed coil" after it is warmed up to see if there's a problem there?
Another possibility I just read is water coming through the exhaust gasket and allowing it into the cylinders, that's easy to check the next time I'm out on the water.
Thanks in advance to all of y'all in the iboats community.
Dwight
