I have a 1980 mercury 40 hp I got with a boat. The carb and fuel pumps were in a bag of parts.

i have rebuilt the carb and the fuel pump. As I was going through the service manual, I can’t seem to find my fuel pump #62973. Along with not being able to find this pump for fuel line routing, there are no fuel lines left over to figure out where each one goes!!

The fuel pump has 4 ports most I have seen I think have 3. This has 2 larger fittings and 2 small fittings. Big ones I’m assuming are fuel in from tank and fuel out to carb. But which one? And where do the other 2 go? 1 on the crankcase somewhere?

Still need some help with this. 1 line goes to the carb, one line to fuel filter/gas tank.

Per the parts list 1 goes to crank case and 1 goes to tell tale. I need help locating tell tale and crankcase placement.

We need a serial number so we can find some diagrams.

I think I figured it out. It’s the water inlet and outlet nipples. One just dumps out of the bottom cover and the other connects to the port between both cylinders.

I’ll have to source the line that dumps out it’s a pretty tight angle.
