1980 suzuki dt8 pop

the motor runs great, idle's good and all seems fine but at full throttle on the water, sometimes it pops, if i throttle down just a hair it doesn't do it. any thoughts? carb has been cleaned and dialed in per me. one pull start.

I always thought backfiring was from a lean mixture, of course there are other causes but that is the first thing to check.

i guess my next question would be what is the starting point for the air/fuel mixture. i have read 2 different ones, 3/4 to 1 1/4 and the other was 1 3/4 to 2 1/4?

Where is it at now? Open it up a 1/4 turn and give it a try. The newer ones like I have its fixed, no adjustment. : (
