Just purchased a boat with a 1981 Mercury outboard on it. The boat has been sitting in a barn for about 10 years. It did start right up and run. The problem I am having is it takes several minutes before it with plane. I have to slowly increase the throttle and wait for it to gain RPMs. I have it in the shop now because I thought it probably needed new carb kits. They took the carbs apart and put them back together. Said they did not need rebuilt. They water tank tested it today and stated the bottom cylinder or maybe 2 were spitting water out. They are in the process of pulling the exhaust manifolds to check for water leakage? They also did a compression check and leak down test. All good. Any thoughts? Thanks, Jim
PS: I requested they change out the water pump and lower unit oil as it has been sitting for 10 years. Any other suggestions?
