1981 115hp Evinrude lower end question

I FINALLY got the lower end to drop off and replaced the water pump but now, after working so hard to get the lower unit off, there are nicks in the edges of the housing and the lower unit. Is there something i should do to make sure of a seal between the two?

No need to worry. Thats not an area we worry about sealing anyway. The newer motors have gaps or "split lines" built in. <br /><br />Yes, you will see some water coming out between the mid section and the gearcase. Nothing abnormal. <br /><br />Make sure to grease the driveshaft splines.<br /><br />Good luck!
