1981 35 HP JOHNSON

I have the above motor mounted on a 13 ft Boston Whaler.Boat was runing fine slowed down for a skier and when I got back on throttle hard to plane, but did. Was running fine when it felt like someone pulled the choke, started spitting and cut off.I got over to shallow water with trolling motor, took motor cover off and head which was painted white was now brown. Also noticed coil bolts were real loose so I tighten them back up. Motor would crank but would spit and spudder , Water out the tell tale hole was intermitten mixed with steam out the hole.
I figure at best I need a new water impeller, unfastened all 5 bolts ,4 in back 1 in front ,along with disconnecting the shift rod behind the water inlet plates. Lower unit seems stuck on the front bolt(Has always been in salt water but not ovely rusty)just won't break loose . Have tried prying with nut still on between nut and thrust mount with crow bar no success. Should I heat it with map gas torch???or maybe drive metal splitting wedge where I've been trying to pry it.Also do you think the head is damaged or maybe the thermostat stuck causing the head to overheat and burn up the impeller.
Any help is appreciated?????
