have a chance to pick up this motor cheap but am not that familiar with them. i know it's a 2 cyl. it's clean with 140lbs. compression on both cylinders but trim does not work. can someone point me somewhere to find specs and parts and any thoughts on this engine. $500 with controls. not sure if that's a steal but i think a good price.

Got an '82 60hp twin myself, good motor for my needs.....more importantly, what would you be powering with it and expecting it to do though?

OMC made them in 40/50/55/60hp versions over several decades with very little change to the basic design so that probably says more for their reputation than anything else. May not be much wrong with the PTT, if its all there could be an easy fix....$500 is a good price for what you are describing imo.

Most of the parts you will need are still available.....you can get service parts for it here at iboats (aftermarket) or boats dot net (genuine).....

I have an '81 50 and it is absolutely bullit proof ad for a runner with that compression 5 bills is a very very good price on that.

The TT could be as easy as a relay or as bad as a motor, does it do anything at all or is is dead dead, normally they will go up or down but not both which means it is a relay, even if it is the motor they aren't too expensive to have rebuilt and not worth skipping on the engine.

found out trim motor is bad. still can't find any specs. weight, displacement etc. is $500 too much considering trim motor? i'm starting to have doubts, but it sure is clean.

Put it this way.....in perfect condition i think its worth closer to a grand give or take over there or here.

Despite the trim motor its still a good buy in my opinion, i had to resolder the brush contacts on mine and it runs fine now.....that really cost me alot.:D

This isnt very clear but zoom in a bit and you might be able to get some info from it......http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2848731690101354590NqOcuP

Not to put a damper on anything here but I have seen some of those vintage blocks crack. Mainly on the 60 hp. OMC's answer was they were trying to get to much out of it.

Didnt know about that so thanks for the info, whereabouts exactly?.....understandable the 60 would be the candidate for it though and probably why they switched to a 3cyl version a few years down the road.....as far as i know mine is not showing any sign of it yet.

40,48,50, and 60 are all the same bore and stroke ...... why would the 60 crack and the rest not?

More hp equals additional load on internal engine components.....via transfer, crankshaft/block would bear the bulk of any extra load.....hopefully boobie will check back and let us know his opinion.

decided against the motor. the guy got nervous when i asked questions like he wasn't telling the whole story. my gut told me not to do it, so i politely declined. didn't really 'need' it anyway so why risk it.
