Hello all and thanks for the great forum :)

I have a 1981 60hp two cylinder and am tearing down the complete lower unit
the most part of it is straight forward but i must be missing something ??

dropped lower from motor :) removed shift rod, prop, exhaustport, snap rings from the inside first set of gears, powershaft ( thing thats a good name for it LOL ) shaft that goes from power head to lower gears,
But Now i am stuck  all that is left is the one large gear the outputshaft and shift linkage ! but i can seem to see what is keeping it from coming out

If there is someone who knows what it is i need to do to get the final parts out it would be Awsome help and greatly apreciated
Thanks
Dan

I know the pics aint the best but for a phone it dosn't work tooo tooo bad LOL

Re: 1981 60hp Johnson Lower unit Help :)

Just had a look at my manual and it states,

"The shift detent must be in reverse (down) to provide the necessary clearance for propeller shaft removal."

Hope this helps.

Re: 1981 60hp Johnson Lower unit Help :)

Thanks alot your awsome :)

now if i can just get it to go all the way into reverse :(
see the issue was i hit a rock up in norther Ontario last year and it poked a hole in the lower unit :( boo hoo ( dam who put that there LOL if you have ever been around Key river or French river area you know there is ROCK EVERY WHERE LOL
so any way i had it welded up and everything was fine well till i tried for reverse and it wouldn't go in :(
But enough about my problems :)

Thanks you so Very Much Mark least i know i am in the right spot with it i might just need a little extra force in my situation LOL

Great fishing and fun on the water :)
