I have a 1981 80 HP Mercury wiring problem, I have burnt wires leading to the Stator, trigger, coil & Rectifier.
Cause:
It looks likes the Violet wire coming from the trigger was rubbing against the housing & shorted out, this burnt the following wires.
1. Stator: Both the Yellow/Red wires coming from the rectifier
2. Trigger: Violet wire leading to pin 7 on switch box
3. The number 1 & 4 output wires from the switch box leading to the coils
I think I can can repairs all the wiring harnesses, so I guess my question is how do I test the componets & is there a paticular order of testing?
Need to know how to test the following
Stator
Rectifier
Trigger
Coils (I assume if I regain spark that a good enough test for the coils)
Thanks for any help.
