ok i got this motor for free. i cleaned the carb and replaced the fuel line. it started and ran a month ago. then i rebuilt the lower unit on it. put everything back together and it wont start. it acts like its going to, but it just wont. i know its getting good fire and the spark plug is good. the only thing i can think of s the hi and low idle adjustment screws are out of whack. hod do you set these?

Go to the Engine FAQs, sharkbate.

One on Outboard won't start, others on initial settings of carbs.

Let us know what you find.

Hi, I was wondering where these FAQ`s are located because I have the same problem. You can start the engine and put it on fast and it runs good but when i go to put it on slow it runs for about a minute then wants to die so i put it on fast and then it does die.

I've had these motors fool me before, single cylinder beast, well sort of. I had one come in and wouldn't idle. I cleaned the carb thinking that was the fix, cleaned and reinstalled and same thing. So I turned to spark, pulled the flywheel and discovered the points were black as coal. Re and re'd the points, cleaned and adjusted- replaced the 1 coil wire and it's ran fine ever since. Have one in the garage right now doing the same thing, I will perform the same procedure all over again.
