I have a 1981 Eska gamefisher 7.5 hp motor I just got and I can't get it to start. I noticed after a few tries pulling a small amount of gas appears to be coming from the carb. After a few more pulls it starts a steady stream of gas.
I took the carb apart and everything looks clean. I sprayed carb cleaner on everything and put it back together. No luck...same problem. What could be happening and how do I fix it.

Thanks,

Got this problem fixed with a gallon of gunk and a small brush......starts great and sounds really nice but I cannot get the darn thing in gear to save my life. No compression on the prop after the motor fell over on its side. any ideas?

That outboard has a shift clutch dog, a shift rod, and a shift lever in the lower unit. You can see the parts diagrams by entering your model number, 217.585940, at www.searspartsdirect.com. All the parts are available at that site.

I'm not sure why yours is not shifting, but it could be in the lower unit, in the shift handle linkage, or elsewhere.

Fortunately for you, Sears still has the parts available. The question is whether the outboard is worth putting the money into to get it working. That's a decision you have to make.
