I have a Johnson 1981 90 hp J90TLCIM and have the opportunity to purchase a 1986 110 J110TLCD parts motor. My question is would the 86 be a comptable match as a backup LU for the 81? ...and what would the differences be in the carbs...if any.

Thanks

the carbs are going to be 1 5/16 throat on the 110 and 1 3/16 on the 90. The jets will be different too. the lower units should swap with no problem as long as the drive shfts are the same length and have the same number of splines. If i remember correctly i think one of the few differences in the motors is the bubble back exahst system on the 110 which will fit the 90

I don't think the 110 had the bubble-back either - could be wrong though. The LUs will fit, you may have to swap shift shafts. It'll be pretty obvious if that's the case.

Thanks guys. I was most interested in the LU cause I can see to get a replacement is quite pricy. This 110 does have the bubble back exhaust.

Thanks again
