1981 merc 9.8

Hi i have a merc 9.8 outboard that has the
Thermostat side cover can i change this to a non thermostat with a new plate and cover or are the blocks different between thermostat and non

Blocks are different.-------------------What is the motor doing / not doing ?

The motor had the melted washer on the water tube issue went to do a teardown
3 ears on the cylinder block cover disintegrated removing the bolts and the exhaust baffle side the inner plate is really warped. Parts are hard to find and being in canada even more frustrating. I found pieces on ebay but they are for a non thermostat thats why i was wondering if it would work

I found both T-stat and non T- stat covers on fleabay and craigslist when I did a quick look.

Ok thank you. My cover is ok my cylinder cover is the broken piece and a thermostat baffle plate that is fairly straight lol
