I have a 1981 mercury 150 that I just bought that I am trying to work out the tilt system. It was low when I bought it (would just barely move the motor) so I decided to add some fluid. The motor is disconnected from the outboard (it's in the boat) and I loosened the only thing that looked reasonable as a fill hole (on the hydralic motor) to which hydralic fluid started coming out like a fountain. Awesome. I then spend the rest of the afternoon trying to put fluid in the same hole with a funnel, and working the motor up and down manually to pull it in. Now I've got the aching back to prove it, and didnt' really get much in there, still didn't work, and it sounds like the motor isn't pumping anything (air locked?)

I then figured out that the pump was leaking at a seal. I removed a phillips head screw on the flat end of the pump and found that the seal was bad, do yall know where I can get a new seal for this? And once I do, how to fill this thing up the right way? I dont have a way to get pictures right now, I put the boat out at my uncle's 30 miles away. Pictures would help alot.

After fooling with this most of the afternoon, I just wanted the thing in the water, so I got it to the ramp and finally started. The starter would engage fine, but right when it needed to turn just a couple more revolutions and start, it would disengage. Haven't taken the cowling off and looked at this, but I figure it's pretty simple. Once it started, it was fine, started everytime.

I could rev the motor all the way up, no problem when I took it out of gear, buuut when I put it in gear, it seemed to bog down, sputter, and not want to get going. Fastest I went was like 10 mph. Could this be because I had the motor titled all the way down? (didn't have much option, haha) Or something more sinister in the gear system?
