1981 mercury tower of power 115

Morning I looked through threads but I have a question I’m working on my late fathers boat that we loved to fish with. But it’s been bogging down at take off. If I feather the gas I can get it WOT and let it fly. While replacing the impeller I noticed this. I was told it’s for timing but does anyone know exactly where it goes? Any input greatly appreciated!!!

That could easily be dirty or mis-adjusted carbs as well.

I would recommend an OEM service manual. It would be pretty easy to check the idle pickup timing and max spark advance. If those are on spec, it would be time to check the carbs.

That’s on top of the motor it’s supposed to go somewhere under the flywheel. From what I can tell it’s connected to the throttle.

Yes----I have a few of those " towers of power " motors.-----But I would get blisters on my typing fingers explaining where this part hooks up.----Up to you to look where the other broken pieces are.----Be an easy fix here,-----I step aside now.

I have to get a puller to take the flywheel off.

It was the trigger thanks for all the input!!

Took it for a test run last night and ran perfect!
