Anyways i would like to start off with the first day pics. and i will do pictures through out! this is my first time ever owning a boat. so im still in the process of learning about the stern drive and so forth...
Heres when I came home and this boat (the neighbor brought home for me) was in my driveway with a beer on the bow. LOL!
Any suggestions on which i should do through the process will be greatly appreciated!

when you have the manifold off....pressure test it for leaks.

it can save you a headach in the long run!

outside uncovered since 99 eh?......hows the floor? any solid spots left? :D

if there is soft spots......and i think there will be.....you will have some thought to do

but i just love tearing into them and seeing how good they can look after the critters have been evicted ! :)

cheers

yes i did pressure test it. and it came out ok.
the floor is in good shape. i found 1 soft spot by the passenger corner of the deck. but nothing major. so im going to just leave it alone. i did put the motor back together tonight. whiskey gave me the motivation. lol and found out some parts were not broken. i thought the cable for the carb linkage was frozen and the cable to control reverse and forward was frozen as well. turns out there was a little someone messed with it before and had everything screwed up. so that saved me a good 200 bucks. all i need now (hoping the block doesent leak anymore) is a intermediate stern drive. it wont go left to right. its not the cable either. any way of budging this? i know how to take the lower unit off. but is there anyway to find out how to disassemble the intermediate? (i think thats what its called since they keep telling me that). other than buying a book. is there a web page?
thanks

You're going to need a manual if your going to try any outdrive work. Post engine/outdrive questions in the correct forum for these issues.

A word of warning. The old OMC's are not popular here except with fellow OMC owners. Expect some negativity! You may have good luck with this boat, You'll need it(with any old boat for that matter).

Good luck to you.

well everyone, i would like to say i got the stern drive free. took the whole thing apart and and finally broke it free. prop turns everything runs and shifts great. The JB weld held up great too! i heated the block up many many times all day long to see the block expand and contract. JB weld still held.
Now its time for new seats and get the nasty gas out of the tank.:D

alright, it was leaking water out of the back where the block meets the bell housing... so I had no choice but to pull the motor tonight. but im glad i did.

ended up the plug in the block popped out. so i tapped it back in and reinstalled the engine.

Hey,your Dodge truck looks pretty good with the dual stacks.
I had a 2007 Dodge 3500 dually and loved it.Put the Superchips Flashpack on it and it was a rocket.Would smoke those dual wheels off...;)
It was fun out running Mustangs and the kids in the little rice racers..lol!

yeah, it looked like it was in great shape, but there should be no reason for it to pop out again, unless i let the block freeze. it was a tight fit putting it back in tho. so im sure it will stay.
thanks for the support!

Gas Tank Wiring.....

Gas Tank Wiring.....

hey everyone, im a little confused on this. idk if the gauge works cause the tank only had about a inch of cottage cheese gasoline in it. lol so i riped it out and dumped the gasoline. when i was installing the tank back in, i hooked up the red wire and the black wire. but i have this green wire thats hooked up to the tank but its not connected to anything. Can you guys help me on knowing what this green wire was for? Whoever had this boat before butchered the wiring.
Thanks
Nick

Re: Gas Tank Wiring.....

On my maxum outboard boat with built in aluminum 30 gallon tank? The green wire is a ground from the gas tank to the gas filler neck, not sure if your inboard would be the same.
