Title sums it up. Will a 1981 Or 1985 35hp low end fit a 1983 35 hp? I have a 83 that needs a low end and have found bout an 81 and and 85 for sale. If either will fit please let me know

The 81 should work as the bolt patterns are the same and so are the driveshafts. In 84 the driveshaft numbers changed, so anything later might not swap

The 85 model will have the better pinion and bearings.---IT is the best choice.

As a unit, they will all interchange. Parts between them may not as noted above, due to changes in gears, shafts and bearings.

I believe there is a wee difference on the flat where the waterpump is driven.-----Earlier pumps were driven by a round metal pin.---Later pumps were driven by a plastic cam.-------The wee difference gives the part a different number perhaps.-----If you know what fits what it does become simpler.

Thanks for all the input. The motor that needed the low end was on my dad's boat. I ended up buying a 1648 flat bottom with a non running tiller steer 1983 35hp and ended up just using that low end to fix it since I already had a motor for the flat bottom.
