1982 70 Hp Johnson Ignition Problems

any quick fixes for this? I can start the motor with the ignition switch but when I turn the key to the off position the motor still runs...I must choke it to stall it.any simple solutions?

yeah check the back of the key switch is the blk/yellow connected to the M terminal? is the blk connected to the other M terminal on the other side? or i would buy or try a new key sitch.

I checked the swith and it looks ok... what wires to i need to check on the engine with the OHM meter?

are the black and yellow/black wires plugged in on your power pack? those are your kill switches.

yeah go ahead and check that blk/yellow under powerpack and if thats connected check all plugs while connected or check continuity from keyswitch to pack. check your ground wires to your keyswitch.

I bought a new switch and it didn't help.i'm not the greatest at electrical work.hopefully this pic will help

try grounding the black/yellow at the pack when idling on muffs. If that doesn't kill it, your pack is bad.

I spliced a wire from the pack and started the motor then grounded it and it killed the motor.iguess I have a cut between the switch and the pack?

did you try grounding the kill wire manually at the switch? be sure to ground it from the switch terminal M to the battery neg post or engine case, not in the control box, as it may have ground issues...

i'm out if town until sunday.i will try your recomendations on sunday.but i could run a seperate toggle switch to kill the engine if all else fails?

both m terminals at the switch did not kill the engine...

then you must have a open wire or bad plug connection between the control and the pack....
