I don't have a manual yet and have a question regarding disassembly of my 82 800 series mechanical shift drive. I have a manual for my electric shift drives butI have found some small differances between the two going along.

? is in regards to the bearing carrier for the prop shaft. I have removed the 4 bolts and have tried to use a puller to remove the carrier. I am assuming that the housing is just corroded and needs some tender working to get it apart but figured I would ask to be sure.

Thanks in advance.

Re: 1982 800 series OMC- help

A couple pictures I have found (electric shift drives) have a snapring at the outer end of the drive but I don't have one there.I am going to have another look and see deep inside at the bolting surface and see if there is a ring there but I am 99% sure that there is not.
The outer end of the housing is threaded and looks like at one time the same housing may have used a large lock ring to lock the bearing carrier in place. Nothing on this drive nor any evidence there ever was.

I looked here
h**p://www.sterndrive.info/http://www.sterndrive.info/id13.html
and there are tabs (part 57) in the picture which I do not have and also a mount (part 30). There is no mounting provision for either one of them either.

Update
Bearing housing is off. I was correct only the 4 bolts hold it on, along with some corrosion....
whywhyzed you were close, there is 2 snap rings that have to be removed once you get the prop bearing support off.

This drive is looking like it has been well maintained or redone at somepoint. All bearings etc... are in good condition. Going to redo all seals and paint it up and it will be like new!

Took a lot of heat, sweat and a 10lb slide hammer to get mine out. A combo of corrosion and old sealant really made life miserable.
