Hey everyone. I have a 1982 evinrude 140 that I bought and rigged this week. I finally got to the point that I could do a test run in a barrel tonight. It fired up and ran like a champ only no water out of tale tell. I used a small compressor and blew through the hose and cleared out some spiders and bugs. I started again and now has plenty of water. I put it in gear to make sure it would go and it splashed out a lot of water. I noticed that between the foot and the exhaust shroud there was water coming out. Just above the trim tab you know. I am not sure it should do this. Other than this it all looked good. Foot oil was clean. Had really small metal shavings on bottom plug. Didnt look to bad though. Any ideas about the water?

If you are talking about the holes in front of the filler block, there is supposed to be water coming out there, you just can't see it unless the boat is on plane.

Didnt look like holes to me. looked like the top of the foot met the exhaust housing and water was coming out. I only noticed after I threw in forward and all of the water came out of the barrel. On a side note this motor is replacing a 1986 Johnson 140 VRO. I have installed a 1982 Evinrude 140. The fuel tank is under the floor because it is a deck boat. It is a huge fuel tank. Because of the VRO there was no oil in the fuel the PO left in it. I would say at least 20 gallons. So when I installed new motor I have to use premix. I guessed on gallons of fuel in tank. and I think I added a little to much oil. Which isnt all that bad because the motor sat for at least 6 years after a rebuild. I figured to much is better than to little. But now it is smoking a lot. I am going to try and dilute it. When I first cranked it it didnt some that bad then I noticed the very blue fuel coming through the filter. Do you think it will be fine?

It's a risky thing to try and figure out how much gas to add to a system that has to much oil in it. I would probably run it and let it smoke and add the proper fuel/oil ratio as the fuel is used up.
If you are seeing water coming out between of the seam between the lower unit and the exhaust housing, that is not uncommon.

Thanks for that. I hadn't thought about the result of to much gas added. Also thanks about the water to both of you!
