i bought a piston and it doesnt look like the other one (2 cyl)

1982 2-cyl 60hp E60ELCNM

problem is.... i dont know if some turkey has been in this motor before me. so i dont know which one is right.
the guy i got the piston from was really crappy service. i am willing to just start all over and get a matched pair now. but i want to make sure i got the right part. the piston pkging had the right part number on it..... but i have a feeling that the guy sold me the wrong part.

any ideas? how accurate will the pics be on the brp catalog?

part# 0391798

after some research..... i found the problem. i was able to find a sierra catalog and looked at a bunch of pistons.... they sold me wrong part(even though the right part number was on the bag)
i was sent the wrong piston by ishopmarine.com who i will vever, ever do biz with again.

the WORST customer service ever..... slow, slow, slow and wrong part.

That has not been my experience with that vendor.

Are you installing one new piston and one old one? Let me tell you from past experiences that you are going to have problems. Just my 2 cents though!

CarbKid..... If it is done properly (New/Old), and the old part compares with new, that will not create a problem.

Re: 1982 Evinrude pistons

sorry Joe,

been really slammed at work lately.... i just answered it.

well, 1 piston was galled. and the other looked fine. we honed the cylinders and put in new rings. new wrist pins on new piston.
i knew it wouldnt be perfect, but i had given up on ishopmarine.... and didnt even want to mess with a return. if the new piston didnt work i would replace both. we have done this a million times on motorcycles and autos.... never had a problem. and i would do it again on a boat motor, because it is just a hot rod motor.... no big deal. it is my fault that we put in the wrong part, but after a month of waiting on my order i HAD TO try and get it on the water. and we did.... and the 5yr old caught some white bass.... but it was hard to start.

well, here we are, shopping for 2 new piston kits.

glad to hear that others have not had the awful experience with ishopm as i did... it took a month to get the 'complete' order. they partial shipped(couldnt do anything with partial) and i could NEVER get them on the phone. phone calls were returned DAYS LATER.
obviously, this is a home run business that some guy does on the side. which is fine by me when i get good/competent service.

i think they sent the 60hp piston for the newer models or something. they sent a 18-4124 instead of 18-4125. although the part was labeled 4125
