1982 Evinrude Sport 140......What does the "Sport" mean?

I recently bought a 1982 Evinrude Sport 140hp. It runs great and I can't complain, I just want to know what SPORT means. It is written on the cowling. By the way, this thing is blue, unlike the other 1980s Evinrudes I've owned. What gives? Thanks.

The "Sport" moniker was a paint and graphics package, nothing more...

a marketing gimick, to get you to spend more money, for the blue paint.

Neighbor kid has "sported" out his Honda Civic with front airfoils, a rear deck spoiler, splash graphics, tinted windows, custom wheels, a lowering kit, and a coffee can muffler that goes "moo". It is much faster now, as evidenced by two speeding tickets in as many weeks. The Evinrude "Sport" package was the same concept.

PS - He has also bolted a $10 fire extingisher to the door post behind the driver's seat. Maybe he expects his mods will cause the car to catch fire?

1982 140 did not have 'sport' on the cowl. The 1981 140 had 'sport' under the E in Evinrude. So did all the V6s
