I have a 1982 Johnson 140 model # J140TLCNB , I noticed oil leaking from the mlv. area. When I removed the snap ring, which was broken and removed the valve (the o-ring was in pieces). I cleaned it all up and started to put it back together and could not find any info on how it goes back in. Does the valve have any o-rings on it ? I put the valve in, without any rings and seated it, there was a grove in the housing so I put an o-ring in and a new snap ring and filled it with hydraulic oil. Before I start to cycle it up and down, I want to make sure this is the right way. Any help would be appreciated, thankyou

Since you are not working from a factory service manual, you may have some reference luck with the factory parts diagrams. Check this factory site out for the exact exploded parts diagrams for your engine: epc.brp.com. You may be able to see just what parts are involved.

I have looked at the drawing on the site you suggested and it does not show if there are any o-rings that go onto the valve itself. The way the drawing shows mlv. first, o-ring, then snap ring. The mlv. is part # 66 on the drawing

It would appear there's just the one O-ring, and it fits to the groove on the manual release valve.
