1982 Johnson 150 Strator

Need some guidance: Motor has tilt and trim. I found a replacement strator. The part is # 173-3672 made by CDI electronics replaces OEM #s 581830 581865 581867 581987 582016 582023 582404 582497 582867 583104 583671 and 583672.

This issue is that the tech states that this is a 9amp and the JOhnson website states that this engine requires a 10 amp (part #581987). Two questions:

** Can I use this if it truly is a 9 amp?
** Is anyone familiar with this CDI part to validate it is a 9 amp, and not a 10 amp?

Which tech? CDI tech or the one working on your boat. CDI only list 9 amp for that engine. CDI products not always carbon copy of OEM parts. I would install the 9 amp probley cheaper, and warranty is good.

Will there be a performance issue with using a 9 amp vs. a 10 amp ? Not sure how amperage impacts performance of the engine.

BTW, it is much cheaper.

It's not running the engine that's any concern, and 1A difference is inconsequential. BTW, your engine does not have a strator, it's stator.

The 9 amp should work fine. The early V6 crossflows used a 12 amp, then later a 10 amp stator. The later base 150 engines all used a 9 amp. It only relates to that part of the stator that recharges the battery.
