Well sure you mean lower unit :) I would use a high viscosity marine grade gear oil. 1 quart should be more than enough for that motor. You should be able to pick it up from Wal-mart etc. I have been told it is best to fill the lower unit, from the bottom up.

I was told if are draining the old oil from the lower unit. You should remove the drain screw first, then the fill/vent screw. Once the oil has drained, you are suppose to fill it from the bottom up. They sell a little pump to do this, if they do not have at wal-mart, you local auto parts should have it. I do not think they are very expensive.

You are suppose to pump the oil in until it comes out the fill/vent oil hole. With very few or no bubbles.

Then replace the vent/fill screw, remove oil supply from drain hole. Replace screw in drain hole. Clean up all the excess oil, then you should be ready to go..

Hope this helps

I just did my 7.5 and it will not even take all of the squeeze tube that you can buy at your local marine dealer. You have to remove both screws, the upper one and the lower one (hard to see) at the bottom of the lower unit next to the skag. Then squeeze the gear oil in from the bottom and when it comes out the top hole it is full. Simply insert the bottom screw first and then the top one and you are done.
