1983 115 hp Evinrude

Anyone know if this particular model outboard has any known or common faults.Looking at purchasing a boat with a 1983 115 hp evinrude on it.No motor history or hour meter but motor is very tidy ,no corrosion etc. Thanks Bruce

That was a VERY good engine.<br /><br />Gobs of torque and very reliable, if maintained.<br /><br />The crossflow V-4 design (of which that one is) originated in 1957 and the basic design remained in production through 2000. That should tell you something.<br /><br />I have owned several CF V-4's. They hold a special place in my heart.

I just recently switched from my johnson 115 to a new suzuki 70 horse and would never go back<br />I never had any real problems with the 115 other then the fact that they are carborated and a little tougher to sincronize but after doing it a few times it is not so difficult either, it is a very torquey motor<br />I have herd that they have problems with loosing cylinders but do not know for sure
