1983 115 starts but wont run???

I just rebuilt this thing and just about got 10 hours on it.had it out a week ago and it ran fine for about an hour then stalled. it would fire up but not run.kinda like the plugs were fould and it would run on 2 cyl then the others would fire then stall.killed the batt trying to start it. towed it back .the next day I charged the batt, started it on the trailer ,ran fin for about 1/2 hour. started it 3 more times during the week and it was fine.today I started it ,ran for about a minute and is doing what it did on the water. i checked for spark and it sparks on all 4 cyl. but the way it runs sounds like 1 or 2 are missing. if it is not charging could this happen. ive got it on the charger now .ill try to start it in the morning.what else?

I used a spark tester but Ive been reading and it should jump 1/2" and that did not happen. I had to close it up to get spark .what does that mean ?

The starter needs to spin the crank at 250-300 rpm to get the ignition to fire. Based on your testing, the spark may be weak. You can also test spark when it is running with an inductive timing light. The flashes in the gun will tell you if you have weak spark, misfires, or nofire. Would be good to know if you have this spark issue on all 4 wires, or one only, or on one head or the other head..it's helpful to know which wires are a problem.

it wont run now so I cant use the timing light but its turning over fine .what would cause a week spark?

It helps to write the test results down so you can keep track and post back the results.

one seemed like it had ok spark but it fired up when I was checking it so maby cause it was running on the other 3 it looked that way? the others I had to close the gap on the spark tester. It only ran for a few seconds before it stalled

ok,I checked the spark again.the right side would jump a 1/2 " gap but the left will not. i changed the power pack on the left side with a spare .I have a parts motor, but it still not jumping a 1/2 gap or 3/8 for that matter

Good that you were able to swap the power pack in question. How (will) does the engine run with the new pack?

still didnt spark with the new pack. so I started doing the test in the manuel . the first test is to test the key switch. you have to jump the 3 wires from the power pack. still had no spark . the next test said to use a meter on the black wire in that same plug. then it says to disconnect the black wire from the key switch. checked for spark and it worked! started it and it still seemed like it wasnt on all cyl. so I checked the spark on the other coil on the same side and it had none so I changed both coils on that side cause the wires were connected and now its working. I'm still not completly sure cause it ran good the day after it left me stranded
