1983 140 hp johnson kill switch

I just bought a 1983 johnson with remote controls and starts just fine however it does not turn off with the switch and had to pull wires to kill engine. the emergency kill is non functional also. what can i do to find problem and can a seperate kill switch be installed outside the ign. switch to solve the problem and what wires would I use

As a matter of safety for yourself and others, you should repair the kill circuit as designed.

The black with yellow stripe wires running to your powerpacks are the kill wires and are connected to the large M post on your ignition switch. When the ignition key is turned to "Off" the switch grounds the black with yellow stripe wire and should instantly stop your ignition from firing.

The emergency kill switch uses the same circuit.

does it run any different when you hit the kill switch. (drop 2 cylinders?)
the kill switch should place the yellow/black wires, (pin D on the 4 wire plugs going to the power packs)

If neither side is affected, it would seem likely you are not getting a ground to your control box. (the black wire)
