1983 150 Black Max...Mystery tube....what is it and where does it go?

So its hard to describe where this probably one day clear, now yellowed, plastic tube is coming from. I shall do my best lol on the front of the motor, going down into the L/U is a small clear tube, its not attached to anything right now, not sure why, probably came loose during transport, none the less its a little over a foot long and is now just dangling around, dont know where it goes or what it does, help!

Could it be the one which attaches to item 2 in this link, which should be the speedometer hose:

I am pretty sure it is the speedo line. There is not much else it could be. You could always drop the LU if you want to be sure or set up a running bucket with water as though you were going to run the engine and blow air through the visible end of the line and when you see the bubbles in the bucket, you will have found the entry point for the speedo.

looks like its the speedo line, and isnt needed as there is an external speedo already hooked up. what should i do with the line? theres a small clip on one of the grease fittings I can stick it in so it wont be in the way, should I plug it or just leave it open?

where would it have been origonally? was it just connected to another tube running up to the speedo at the front of the boat?

Yes, and if you are not going to use it, cap it off and hide it. You can remove the existing hose and fitting the next time you are in the LU for an impeller change.
