1983 20 hp merc starting problem

Just purchased a 83 20hp merc at an Estate sale for $50 bucks. Brought it home and have checked compression-top @110 & bottom @ 108 with throttle open. Purchased new plugs and installed. Pulled carb and soaked. Cleaned tank (came with) and added new fuel@oil. Pumped the bulb tight and pulled my arm off for 15 minutes. I belive I have spark because I shot some starting fluid in carb and it fired but did not continue to run. What would you recommend I check next.

Stop the starter fluid or you will really have problems. Apparently the primer system on the carb is plugged and needs to be cleaned. while the carb is off you might want to check the low speed circuit also it may be plugged or else when it started it would have stayed running.
