I ijust purchased a 17 ft monark with a 50 horse evinrude when I bought the boat the motor fired right up and ran smooth but now I have it home and I can't get it to fire it has goood spark but I think I am having fuel delivery issues it runs on carb cleaner but won't pull fuel to the carbs I checked the fuel line to the fitting on the motor it has good flow through the line what should I check next ? I opened the filter and it looked clean any ideas would be greatly appreciated

Remove the 7/16 bowel drain screws and pump the primer bulb and see if you are getting fuel to the carbs. If you have fuel to the carbs, you might have some carb problems.

i would do it my self if u need to take pictures of every step so when u go to put it back together you will not miss anything i have found that deep creep carb spray its made by seafoam works the best for all the lil jets that need to be cleaned its about 11 bucks a can

Backstrapfeaver,
You can do the carbs yourself and save the money the marina wants to do them for. They are so easy to do. Just pay attention where everything goes and you should be good to go. I would remove all the rubber and plastic from the carbs and buy a gallon paint can at Advance Auto parts with parts basket to soak your carbs in then blow them out with a can a carb spray then blow out with a air compressor or if you don't have an air compressor then buy a spray can of air they use for blowing dust off of computer keyboards, etc. Then go ahead and put the carbs back together with new parts, if you choose, and make sure the float drop is correct with the carb in the upright position; as well as, the float height when the carb is turned upside down. Let us know how the engine runs after doing the carb cleaning/rebuild.

Re: 1983 50hp

ok i got the kits and the manual from iboats now after perusing the repair manual it states that all carbs for my motor had a choke set up but mine have no chokes and the carb bodies are not built to accept choke parts is this unusual further more it seems that they in fact are starving for fuel when i choke them with my hands it fires up should i check the fuel pump out before i tear into the carbs ??
