I know this is floating around here somewhere and I apologize for starting a new post. Links to old posts work fine, I just cannot find it.

I have a 1983 Evinrude 75hp that I beleive needs a Link and Sync. Specifically, I think the Idle and WOT screws are off and also the cam. I do believe the spark advance is working properly and I do not think I need to adjust the timing. However, just to be safe, ill take all the information you can give me. I would like to start with just the stops and the cam and if someone knows of a good video explaining the process, the would be even better.

More information: When on the muffs, she starts runs and idles great. She seems to be in full functioning order. When under load, she stalled out when I took the warm up leaver down to idle. Also, when I have the warm up leaver all the way up, she can rev pretty high.

Thank you in advance - Jason

Do a compression test and a spark test before anything sounds like you could be dropping a cylinder. The WOT screw is easy all it needs to do is stop the the arm when the carb butterflies are at 90 deg to the body. Running it on muffs means nothing there is no load on the motor 1 cylinder can do the work of 3.

I have never done a Link and Sync (although I would like to), but I am a little scared to do it for fear that I would screw it up and make my engine run worse.

I would love to see a video also, but I have not found one for Johnson/Evinrude/OMC.

From what I can tell, most people that ask for the procedure on the forums are referred to the service manual for their particular engine I guess because the procedure can vary quite a bit depending on your engine.

I found this explanation here...

look for the 2 marks on the cam that the carb roller touches as you open the throttle...your throttle plate should just start to open at that point...look for a set screw on the carb's throttle shaft to adjust to this position...with the motor in gear , as you advance the throttle see that the carb roller reaches the highest position on the cam at wot and your throttle plate is horizontal in the carb throat

If it ran before and doesn't now do what I told you. Link and syncs don't mysteriously get screwed up all of a sudden unless it was done wrong in the first place. Ditto with the WOT screw

Compression is good. Spark is good. The tach I bought used from my dealer is bad. Started just fine in a garbage can. I think the battery is toast unless it's fully charged

I have run into the same issue where the starting lever sends her to the moon. I need to dial her back but it's nice to have a little extra umph when I start her.
