1983 80 HP Mercury Idle Issues

Hi Guys,
Great forum! Lots of good info.
I have an 83 80 HP Mercury. It starts very easy and runs great, except for when I decrease acceleration (like when your coming back into the docks)....
I can back off the throttle slowly and it stalls every time, when I get down to only a few miles an hour... I can not get it back to the neutral position with out it stalling. When I start it though, it starts right up?
I am thinking this is just a carb cleaning issue? Any thoughts?

Have a tach? What the idle RPM's here just sitting after start up and warm...this will give us somthing to go by

What is a tech? Currently my RPM guage is not working. I have to re-wire the RPM and speedometer guages. Sorry. When I start it, the engine idles very nice, it just stalls after i drive it for awhile and bring it back down...

Get your tach (RPM gauge) fixed then check your idle RPMs. This is done in the water and in gear. Sounds like it is too low.
