Hello All,
I recently bought a 1983 Bayliner Capri with a Volvo AQ125 engine and 270 stern drive. I am hoping that you guys will be able to answer a question that I have. It never fails, when you are all excited about buying your first boat and are showing it off to the family, someone has to rain on the parade, "how come the throttle cable is moving up and down, but the linkage on the carburetor is sitting still". Well... in inspecting, there is no bracket that holds the cable. i found the bracket underneath the motor. Does anyone have a picture of how and where the bracket bolts to? I haven't been able to get ahold of the guy I bought the boat from. It does start with ease though. I am looking forward to spending time on the lake with my wife and kids, fishing, and playing and what not. Thank You in advance for any and all help.

I have an 86 Capri with the same engine/stern drive setup. I can get you a pic in the next couple days if you are still looking for one.

Re: 1983 Capri

Thanks. I figured out where it went.

Took boat out this past Sunday and found out how bad a shape it was in. Made all kinds of noise. Didn't get very far. It was leaking more water than I was comfortable with. The Drive bellows were ripped on either side, water was coming in through bellhousing at a steady drip. Bilge pump got a work out. Getting ready to pull engine out and replace primary shaft bearing, clips, u-joints, bellows and seals. Wish I would have known these where fubar'd before I bought boat.

What does your dash look like? Can you snap a pic and send it? Mine is spray painted black with a few gauges.

Re: 1983 Capri

I just bought the same boat on Wednesday. I'll be taking it up to the reservoir either Sunday or Monday. If I can get you any picutres let me know. I have not started mine but the mechanic who has maintained it for 10 years says that it is in very good shape.

Mike:

Send me your email and I will get the pictures for you. I am looking for pictures of the canvas top and camper top put up so I can see how the hardware goes from the inside.

Mike- I bought the 1986 model of this boat two years ago same engine/drive set up. You will learn a lot about this set up on the mercury/volvo forum, the guys there have literally walked me through a bunch of repairs. The bayliner owners forum has helped a lot too!

Ken- I would be real interested in those pictures too of the canvas & camper top. I didn't know they made a camper top?
