1983 Chris Craft steering play

I have a 1983 Chris Craft scorpion 169 with a 120hp mercruiser with a alpha 1 gen1.

When I stand behind the boat out of the water I can move the out drive about 3 to 4 inches either side before the steering wheel turns. Is this normal ? Is there any adjustments I can make to tighten this up?

Nope,.. Not normal,..... Ya need 3 people to see where the slop is, 1 to shake the wheel, 1 to hold the drive, 'n 1 to do the Lookin',.....

Did some looking at this, the steering wheel does have play about 1 1/2 to 2 inches either way. The steering lever hole seems bigger than the clevis pin that goes thru it. But the pin is the right size for the cable. Is there a way to tighten it up at the wheel?
