So a buddy of mine was driving his boat wide open, when all of a sudden the boat just stopped moving but the engine was still reving high. He was able to put it in gear and slowly drive it in, but give it any gas and it just revs up. Once he got it to the bank he trimmed it up and it looked like the prop has moved away from the lower unit housing as seen in photo. So then we took the prop of and chunks of a rubber substance from a gasket maybe?? took the lower unit bolt out and found shards of metal on the magnet. Any suggestions on what would cause the prop to move away from housing? and small pieces of metal? Did he blow the lower unit?
