My original problem was that the engine was running rough at about ? throttle. I rebuilt the carburetor, fuel pump, replaced fuel lines and in the process mangled the screen inside the fuel pump cap. To correct the loss of the screen I installed a Johnson/Evinrude inline filter as my dealer did not have any replacement screens for the cap. Now when my engine idles it runs great when primed up with the bulb and fuel filter full of fuel but when the level gets low in the filter is dies out. Are these fuel pumps not able to pump enough to keep the filter full?
I am using an 83 vintage orange/red Evinrude tank with gauge; I did replace all nylon tie raps with small hose clamps on fittings. There are no fuel leaks when bulb is primed. Once off idle the engine does run much better but occasionally kills out.
Any ideas? Thanks, Bill
