I recently purchased a 1979 Thundercraft Titan 15 equipped with an Evinrude 75 E75TRLCTE. On muffs the motor sounded good at idle and I was able to shift into forward and reverse without any issue. Yesterday we took the boat out for a test run and it started up fine and ran WOT without a problem with top speed about 30 MPH on plane. Went to the dock to take my wife and kids out on the boat and she stalled when I shifted into reverse. Started the motor again and proceeded to back away from the dock and shifted into neutral and then into forward and as soon as I gave it any throttle it cut out. After a few more attempts it would run but if I gave it too much throttle at once it would die, I had to baby the throttle little by little to get it to WOT or she would stall out. Spent the rest of the day dealing with this issue which when you have your wife on your boat is never a good thing. The boat and motor set for about 3 years unused before I purchased it from the previous owner. After making some adjustments to the throttle and fuel controls she ran a little better, but I am thinking that the carbs need a good cleaning?? If so, do I need to disassemble the carbs to clean or can I add something to the fuel to clean them out with the next tank? From reading other posts I thought it could also be a coil?? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. On another note, could anyone help me locate the wire to setup my tachometer so I can see the RPM's, as I don't want to overrun the motor.
