I have a 1983 Glastron 16ft bowrider I have the floor completely out of and now I'm ready to reconfigure and floor. I putting a deck in the front and pedastal seats in place of the lounge seats that were in. My stringers are good. My problem is I have been searching the forums for a detailed supply list. I have read the how to's and lots of posts by oops! and woodonglass, but I guess I haven't seen a definative list for supplies to order from the supplier. i intend to use uscomposites, I think thats the one frequently mentioned. i will source wood and minor items from lowes. Thanks in advance.

hi......welcome to iboats...

lol....(joined in 09)

there is not a definitive list, so to speak because each boat is different and what you have to do is different.

if the stringers are good, and you dont have to re foam the boat, you will just need 3 full layers of 1.5 oz csm, and one layer if 6 oz finishing woven cloth.

about 7 gals of resin to start.....and enough filler like milled fibers and 1.4 inch short chopped strand.
you will also need wax, (air dry) and the tools to do it.

your boat is 16 feet......so....you will need one layer of 1.5 on the bottom of the deck. that is 32 feet of 1.5 csm (a roll wont go as wide as your boat, so you need 2 widths, the cutoff will be excess.
now,,,,that is the bottom of your deck....we have to do the same on the top twice.....so that is another 64 feet. for a total of 96 feet
you can get away with 30 yards,,,due to the excess cut off.

you need another 6 oz finishing cloth...so that is 32 feet or 10 yards.

get 2 one gallon containers of milled fibers, the powder kind.
and one gallon of the 1/4 inch chopped strand.

you will need enough mekp to cat 7 gallons of resin, and a small container of air dry.

if you plan to foam the boat......do your foam calculations....(each tri hull is different)

if you want to gellcoat your deck,,,,,,one gallon of gellcoat should do. i would get un waxed and add the wax as you need.

this is a link on how to glass in your deck

Thanks oops! That's what I was looking for so I can get my order placed. Lol, 2009( I am a total lurker). I plan to foam, but I plan to use sheet foam. And surprisingly, my 83 is a v-hull. Thanks for the info!

Re: 1983 Glastron 16ft bowrider

foaming a boat is a really good idea. i like pour in foam much better for several reasons.

however, some of the boats uses foam to strengthen the hull it self, and can add as much as 10% structural integrity to the hull.

the way to tell if your boat needs pour in (very rare in the tri hulls) is to walk on your bare hull ..if it feels really flimsy under foot....use the pour in.....bayliners are a classic example of foam being used to increase hull integrity.

if you have a flimsy hull and do not want pour in foam, you will need to re inforce the hull by adding 2 layers of 1.5 csm to the inside of the hull...this is called a full wrap.

That's an interesting point. My hull does flex. The original foam was rectangular shaped yellow sticks. One glued down, the rest stuffed in.
