I just fired up my "new to me" 150, with the waterhose and there is water shooting out of the top off the lower unit, between the thin gasket and the lower unit also in the front between the metal and the gasket, I've not had any outboards before so I'm not sure if this is a terrible thing or it just needs the gasket (I think it's a thin rubber one) replaced. Any insight? My pics are to big to upload and I ain't smart enough to down size them, I'll get one of my kids to show me how to when they get home...

OK, I have an I/O and it doesn't, so I was checking to make sure. Thanks.

There is no gasket between the mating surface of the midsection and the lower unit. Water does fill the midsection around the exhaust tube and it will normally drain out in the areas you mention.

OK, Thanks, after looking a little closer at it, the black was just a line of paint and not a gasket, but I'd never seen water come out as much in that area as this one does.
