1983 johnson 35 hp shifts loud after replacing wAter pump

Ok so I replaced my impeller with the new water pump kit every thing work out fine I'm getting water to shoot out the talltail and it's not over heating anymore

So that's good but when I went to put it in gear it just sounded louder then befor idk maybe I'm just trippin out and it's in my head but yeah my buddy says maybe it's just cause it not in any load resistance it seems to be running good

So I guess my question is while replacing the pump can there be anything I did to make it shift louder

When you replaced the pump kit did you remove the drive shaft? is there a chance something could have fell into the shaft hole, did anything on the shift rod get bent? Anything is possible but if its running/shifting good your most likely ok,drain/ Check your lower unit oil for any metal chips or other foreign matter, aside from that keep an eye on the pee hole for the next few trips.

Are you running it out of the water (on muffs)? Did you have the propeller off? Maybe it's loose.
