I lost the trim to my 83 johnson 70 hp. Is there a way to disengage it so I can lift the motor up? Relays are both clicking but no power to the trim motor. Just want to get things up out of the way without having to break the lines open.

There is a screw on the stbd side of the bracket called the manual release. Open that two turns.

You could try giving the tilt motor a couple raps with a screw driver handle. Some times the brushes stick.

I tried the whacking the motor with a screwdriver already, i am not sure but i think the brushes are worn on that motor. I am still trying to find the manual release screw. not sure this one has one. I can take a pic of the trim unit maybe someone can point out where the screw is on mine. would be greatly appreciated.
On a side note I wanted to apologize for the double post, my computer seems to have a mind of its own lately.

It would be on the SIDE of the unit. Should be on the starboard side. Look closely.

Look for a hole in the transom bracket and you should see a screw slot in there; loosen it two turns as Boobie says.
