I have been looking to buy a spare prop for my outboard and do not know how to tell the difference between the small gearcase or the large(commercial) gearcase. Is there way to tell which one is which? Serial #? Exhaust cover size? I am a bit lost at the moment.
Serial # for this motor is J5824449 if that helps at all.

Thanks in advance for any info.

If its a long shaft, which your model number indicates, it is the large diameter gearcase. The small diameter gearcase ONLY came on the short shaft (15-inch) racing/sport model.

Thanks chinewalker,
I wasn't sure if it applied to both long and short shaft models. Much appreciated.

you can fit a 14 inch diameter prop of 13 spline, any prop from 50hp right upto the older 140hp will fit and a newer e-tec 90hp prop will fit if its the 13 spline prop.
the largest prop is around 14x 27 13 spline that can be obtained easy. all depends on what type of boat your using it on.
be careful when buying a prop with a hub kit that can be changed as then you have to make sure your hub is the right size.
also there is many over hub exhaust props available to you as well.
