I have a 1983 Glastron with a 120 Mercruiser. I have found the bottom oil fill and have located a "oil vent" up high, above the steering pistons.

I filled the lower hole with a squeeze tube (1 qt. bottle) but nothing came out the top vent hole. Newer Merc owners say their oil vent hole is no more than 10" from the bottom hole.
Do older Mercs have the vent higher or is there another vent hole closer to the bottom?

Thanks,

Barry

hello
wow took me a moment to figgue that out.
you have not added enough oil. it holds about 40 ounces.
the vent on your drive is about 3 inches below the top of the housing. the drain is at the bottom forward on the lower. fill slowly from the bottom till it oozes out the top.
buy the 6 dollar qt bottle pump from wally world. it works great. replace the drain and fill gaskets as well.
good luck and keep posting

BarryBob, The "newer" Merc owners have outboards if the top plug is no more than 10" above the drain plug.
Mercruiser 120/140 drives are about 33 or 34 inches tall.Drain is in the front lower side of the "bullet" or "torpedo".Fill from there until gearlube comes out the upper plug, about 3 inches below the top of the drive (as previously answered)
DHP
