I have a 1983 Mercruiser 3.0 and I am installing an electric fuel pump on. I have read all the installation theads and I know you are supposed to wire it to the oil pressure switch. My engine does not have a pressure switch on it (i think). I do have a oil pressure sending unit but I beleive the two are different. Is there any way to get around this as I have checked every local parts store/marine store and none of them have one(so the say). Can I just wire to the alternator?? I have already planned a trip with several freinds for this wednesday and do not have time to order one. Thanks for the help in advance.

1. Why are you going to an electric fuel pump? The mechanical last longer, and are cheaper.

2. You MUST use a marine rated electric fuel pump, and you will need to tee in an oil pressure switch with your oil pressure sender, and basically wire it like this. The hookup to the starter is so the fuel pump runs while you are cranking the engine to start it.

Do you know the part number for the fuel pump. I was just going to go electric because I cant find anything for this engine in this town. Can I get the pump at an auto store?

NAPA carries the the Sierra brand of marine parts, or you can order one from here at iboats. Click on the fuel system parts icon just above your original post.

Wow those are exspensive. Do you know what kind of tee I need(size for the female and the male sides)? Also which do I use out of these http://www.autozone.com/autozone/pa...0-P-U-2WD/Oil-Pressure-Switch/_/N-ihtd9Z9ciau . Also thank you so much for the help. I am new to the boating world and need all the help I can. I can rebuild a whole car without any questions but when it comes to boats I just dont know the tricks. Thanks for the diagram also.
