1983 OMC 2.5 Loses power under load

I have an OMC 2.5 Ltr in a 20' Cuddy and under a load it will loses power,It wont stall out,but there is a significant loss of power.RPM's drop and the speed drops to about 10 mph WOT.I think it is a fuel problem,but I would like a second opinion.Thanks.

Kracker:<br />Check your plug wires thay could be breaking down under load.I had a car do the same thing pulling my camper.Take off ran fine then all of a sudden fall flat on its butt. Wires were bad.<br />Good luck<br />The Beef

Assuming you have clean fresh gasoline, I would visually inspect all your fuel lines for leaks or deterioration. Crank the engine over a few revolutions to be sure the bowl of the carb is full and then turn the key off. Take the flame arrestor off and visually inspect to see if the accelerator pump squirts fuel when a helper pumps the throttle. If you have not found a problem by this point you probably need to get a vacuum guage and tee into the vaccum side of the fuel pump. I believe the spec for vacuum is it does not need to exceed 4" hg when the engine is running at WOT.

Had the exact same symptoms with my 3.8l...<br /><br />Turned out to be the water/fuel separator was full. I'd check that out. Worked for me..

Which 2 or 3 things are you looking at, maybe there is further help as lots of things gets eliminated.

I need to check the flame arrestor and check Vacuum.Everything else checks out ok.I will try and take a look at it this weekend.
